"Feel like a woman. Wear a dress." Diane Von Furstenberg
Diane Von Furstenberg was born in Belgium in 1946. She acquired her name on her marriage to Prince Egon of Furstenberg.
She divorced him in the early 1970s, and soon thereafter began her clothing line, based in New York City. Her most famous creation is the wrap dress, which debuted in 1973. Its popularity landed her on the cover of Newsweek in 1976, and has placed one of her wrap dresses in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Von Furstenberg took a hiatus from designing in the late 1980s and branched out into other businesses. In 1997, she relaunched her primary clothing line.
Von Furstenberg is married to media titan Barry Diller. She was the President of the Council of Fashion Designers of America for the 2006-07 term.
