Miranda Morrison grew up in England, while Kari Sigerson grew up in Nebraska. They met while studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology. After graduating in 1991, they started their namesake shoe line, Sigerson Morrison.
Bergdorf Goodman becan carrying their line in 1992, and it rapidly was picked up by other major retailers. Sigerson Morrison moved production from New York City to Italy in 1995, and opened their first store that same year, in New York's NoLIta neighborhood. In 2001, they launched their first handbags and leather goods line.
Their first store outside New York City opened in 2003 in Los Angeles, and they went international in 2009, opening boutiques in Paris. Their Belle line of shoes (named after Kari Morrison's daughter) launched in 2004. Sigerson Morrison won the Perry Ellis Award for Best New Accessory Design in 1997 from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Footwear News named them Most Influential Retailer of the Year in 2000, and Designer of the Year in 2001.
