Arthur Bernard Sugarman was born in England in 1946, and moved to the United States while young. He changed his name to Ben Sherman, and moved back to the United Kingdom in 1963, where he bought a shirt factory.
Sherman named the company after himself, and soon became one of the most famous clothing manufacturers in the UK. Sherman's clothes were the epitome of the '60s British mod style, and were a favorite of many rock musicians.
Sherman was the first to produce the Oxford button-down shirt. Sherman's clothes often feature the colors and emblen of the British Royal Air Force.
Sherman died in 1897, but the brand continues, and is currently sold on 4 continents.
