Siblings Bruno, Marino, and Maria Magli started their shoemaking business in 1936, using skills taught them by their grandfather. In 1947, they opened their first shoemaking plant, and have branched out over the years into other leather goods and accessories.
The firm remained under family control until 2001. Bruno Magli is known for hand craftsmanship in its footwear. The recognizability and popularity of Bruno Magli shoes increased dramatically after the O.J. Simpson trial, as bloody shoeprints from a size 12 "Lorenzo" Bruno Magli were found at the scene.
Simpson denied ever wearing those shoes, although pictures appeared to show him wearing them while working for ABC.
Rolf Grueterich led the expansion of Bruno Magli into apparel and accessories during the early 1990s, and his son Peter became the president of the company's American division.
Bruno Magli is known for classical styling, and its accessories are designed to coordinate with their footwear.
