Michael Kors was born in 1959, and studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology. He began designing at age 19 for a New York City boutique. He established a line under his own name in 1981, focusing on women's sports and casual wear.
He debuted his fragrances in 2000, his accessories collections in 2001, and his menswear collections in 2002.
From 1997 to 2003, Kors was the first women's ready-to-wear designer and creative director for the French fashion house of Celine.
Kors's clothes are designed in classic chic styles, and are crafted to be comfortable and practical.

Kors won the Elle/Cadillac Fashion Award for Excellence in 1995, and the Council of Fashion Designers of America Womenswear (1999) and Menswear (2003) Designer of the Year awards.
