"I love the idea of elegance and intricacy, but whether it is in a piece of clothing or a fragrance, the intricacy must appear as simplicity." Carolina Herrera
Carolina Herrera was a member of the Venezuelan aristocracy and acclaimed as one of the world's best-dressed women when she moved to New York and started her design house in 1981.
She is known for her finely detailed and tailored clothes for sophisticated women. Herrera is most famous as the clothing designer for Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for the last ten years of her life.
Her collections have been inspired by sources as different as Carmen Miranda and an Edvard Munch painting. Herrera won the Womenswear Designer of the Year Award in 2004 from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
